Because of Garcia's high collectability, fake, or counterfeit, Garcias have been made and are on the second-hand market. When on the Beanie hunt--especially on the second-hand market--it is always a good idea to have a decent amount of knowledge about how to tell an imposter Beanie from the real deal. Below are some tips on how to spot a fake Garcia, graciously provided by Peggy Gallagher, a Beanie Baby authenticator.
1. Fabric: The counterfeit fabric is usually a longer or shorter plush. It is different than any Ty fabric on all authentic Beanie Babies. 2. Tush Tag: The tush tag font is usually not a bright red ink but an orangish/red color. Often times the font is a bolder or thinner font! 3. Hang Tag: The Ty heart tag has a brassy gold trim on the front of the tags! The font could also be thinner or bolder. 4. Ty-dye Technique: The Ty-dyed colors may be totally wrong in color. The same is true with the original counterfeit Dino trio: Rex, Steg and Bronty.
The above counterfeit Garcia picture was provided by Beanie Tenjishitsu. Thank you! Also, as seen in the picture, the shape of the bear can be distorted from an authentic Garcia. To view a printable list, click here. < Back |
