Garcia was retired on May 11, 1997, due to legal conflicts with the family of Jerry Garcia, the late leader of the Grateful Dead. But Ty Inc. wasn't ready to give up a ty-died bear!

On the day of Garcia's retirement, Peace (seen right) was introduced! Peace's design was almost exactly the same as Garcia, except for one difference: a peace sign. A multicolored peace symbol was embroidered onto Peace's chest.

Today, Peace is a collection of all its own. A lot of Beanie Baby collectors also have a Peace bear collection on the side (see Peace Mania, click here).

Peace's birthday is February 1, 1996. His poem reads:

All races, all colors, under the sun
Join hands together and have some fun
Dance to the music, rock and roll is the sound
Symbols of peace and love abound!
Peace was later retired on July 14, 1999. He was issued with fourth and fifth hang tag generations and third, fourth, fifth and sixth tush tag generations.
