Garcia was retired on May 11, 1997, due to legal conflicts with the family of Jerry Garcia, the late leader of the Grateful Dead. But Ty Inc. wasn't ready to give up a ty-died bear!On the day of Garcia's retirement, Peace (seen right) was introduced! Peace's design was almost exactly the same as Garcia, except for one difference: a peace sign. A multicolored peace symbol was embroidered onto Peace's chest.
Today, Peace is a collection of all its own. A lot of Beanie Baby collectors also have a Peace bear collection on the side (see Peace Mania, click here).
Peace's birthday is February 1, 1996. His poem reads:

He was issued with fourth and fifth hang tag generations and third, fourth, fifth and sixth tush tag generations.
